Zakat, Sadaqah and Qurbani
Many supporters give their Zakat, Sadaqah and Qurbani through us. This page sets out exactly what happens to each of them and where the meat, the food and the money go.
Wording under review
The description of what qualifies as Zakat under our programs is being reviewed before publication so that we do not misstate anything: approved wording on Zakat eligibility and which AKWO programs qualify
Ramadan: Iftar packages
Throughout the month of Ramadan we reach families with a simple Iftar package priced at ৳650. Our aim is to provide food relief and new clothes so that fasting families can break their fast properly, regardless of what they have.
Packages are prepared and handed out from the AKWO clinic office at Baishmouja Bazar on the Meghna river bank. Recipients are drawn from the same lists we use for regular ration support, with additions from the clinic register where a family is clearly struggling.
Qurbani
Many people choose to fulfil their Qurbani or other sacrificial donations through us, entrusting us with their contributions to feed the underprivileged. We make sure the meat is properly distributed among those who need it most, bringing a nutritious meal to hundreds of families who rarely get one.
Qurbani follows the same procedure as every other distribution here: a written list of households prepared in advance, a named person responsible on the day, and a report back to the donor afterwards. The cost of a share this season is price of a Qurbani share this season.
Sadaqah for the clinic
Sadaqah given to Abul Khair Welfare Organization goes by default to the free Friday clinic at Baishmouja Bazar, because that is where a small sum does the most immediate good: consultation, diagnosis and medicine for someone who would otherwise go without.
If you would rather your Sadaqah went to food relief, emergency relief, education or a livelihood grant, say so when you give and we will record it against that program.
How faith-based giving is recorded
Zakat, Sadaqah and Qurbani are recorded separately in our books from general donations, so that each can be reported on in its own terms. A donor who gives Zakat receives an account of the distribution it funded, naming the number of households and the union, not a general thank you letter.
Nothing given as Zakat, Sadaqah or Qurbani is spent on running costs, equipment or construction. It goes into the food, relief and livelihood programs, which are the programs that put something directly into a household's hands.
Give now
Tell us in the message field which of Zakat, Sadaqah, Qurbani or an Iftar package your gift is for, and we will record and report it accordingly.
Payments are processed by GiveWP. AKWO never sees or stores your card details.
Common questions
Can I give my Zakat to AKWO?
Many supporters do, and we distribute it through the food, relief and livelihood programs. Because the eligibility of each program under Zakat rules is a religious question rather than an administrative one, we are having the wording checked before we publish it: approved wording on Zakat eligibility and which AKWO programs qualify
How much is an Iftar package?
৳650. That is the price the organization publishes for a simple Iftar package during the month of Ramadan, distributed from the clinic office at Baishmouja Bazar. Eid food packages and Qurbani shares are priced separately each season.
Can I give my Qurbani through AKWO?
Yes. Many supporters entrust their Qurbani or other sacrificial donations to us, and we distribute the meat among the families who need it most. The distribution follows the same procedure as every other: a written list prepared in advance, a named person responsible on the day, and a report back to the donor afterwards.
