Every Friday for the last six years we have been offering a free clinic day at Baishmouja AKWO Clinic. We saw 44 patients this week, mostly women and children, thanks to the efforts of our two doctors who are always there to help.

So, if you need any medical support, come by any Friday. It is completely free. We are here for your health, no strings attached.

Where and when

Location: the Abul Khair Welfare Organization clinic at Baishmouja Bazar, on the Meghna river bank in Birgaon, Nabinagar, Brahmanbaria. When: every Friday, from 10:00 to 14:00. There is no appointment system and no registration fee. Patients are seen in the order they arrive, with small children, pregnant women and the frail moved forward.

Who comes

The same pattern repeats week after week: mostly women and children. Women here tend to put their own health last, behind everyone else in the household, and children are brought in only when a parent is worried enough to lose a morning's work. Both groups are exactly who a free clinic is for.

What is free

Consultation, diagnosis and the medicines we hold in stock. Our doctors treat common conditions, dress wounds, manage infections, check blood pressure and advise on chronic disease. Where a case needs a hospital or a specialist we do not have, the doctor says so and tells the patient where to go.

Six years without a missed week

The clinic has opened every Friday since July 2019. That consistency is the single thing about this organization we protect most carefully, because it is what turns a service into something people can plan around. A patient who needs a follow-up in three weeks does not need to be told a date; they know where we will be.

It also changes who comes. In the first months a free clinic draws the curious and the desperate. After six years it draws the people with long-running conditions who have learned that they can bring their blood pressure or their diabetes back every month and be seen by somebody who has their card.
