Background to this report
Free medical camps are run alongside the weekly clinic at Baishmouja Bazar, roughly twice a month, and take consultations, basic diagnosis and free medicine to people who cannot easily reach the clinic. Every patient is written into a register on the day with age, sex and reason for the visit, which is where the figures in this report come from.
The case mix here is typical of what the clinic sees week after week: women and children make up the large majority, and the most common complaints are conditions that are simple to treat early and become serious when they are left. Lower back pain in particular reflects the physical work most households here depend on.
Consultation, diagnosis and the medicines held in stock are free at every camp. Where a case needs a hospital or a specialist, the doctor refers the patient and explains where to go.
